David Hamma is an artist, musician, graphic designer, husband and father living in Portland, Oregon where he enjoys coffee and bike rides in the rain.


1970. Born in southern California and raised thereafter on a steady diet of pencils, paper and BMX.


80s. Learns to play guitar and starts first of many bands, both real and imaginary.


90s. Attends Pasadena City College, studies with Joe Mugnaini and discovers printmaking. Forsakes art school in favor of playing with psychedelic noise-pop group, The Burning Sofa No. 10. Goes to work for South Pasadena Publishing Company. Starts zine, Skinny Chest and solo project, Puritan. Releases several CDs and singles before moving to Maui in 1999, ostensibly a short vacation which turns into an eight-year adventure.


00s. Returns to printmaking, studying with Paul Mullowney at HuiPress. Introduced to Tai Chi and surfing. Makes a lot of art and continues to write, record and play as Puritan and as member of Hinterlander and Bridgeport.


2007. Moves to Portland. Builds cabinets before going to work for Stumptown Printers Worker Cooperative.


David continues to make art and music with wife and frequent collaborator, Heidi Nelms (Hinterlander) and is currently moonlighting with The Golden Bears as well as readying a new Puritan album for 2010.
